How to be a successful blogger: Really Love Thy Neighbour

The characteristics of a successful blogger are not too far off from the attributes as being an excellent teacher. I taught school for 20 years and swimming for 5 years before that. Classroom management was my strong suit…and the fact that I loved my students, they in turn…loved me back. I can honestly say that I was a great teacher…and,  I truly had wonderful students.

Having a teaching background has helped me become an expert blogger in such a short amount of time, but it is not a requirement…so don’t worry if education is not in your background. You may still have the essential qualities to *conquer all obstacles* and become a blogger with a huge following. Ask yourself these questions:

1.)    Can you captivate an audience? Whether it’s on a one-to-one or in front of a group, are all the eyes cast upon your face and anticipating your next words?

Write articles in a variety of ways – Include various instructional methods—all  levels of learning will be your viewers. They will be at different stages. Presenting a variety of methods and the complexity of the content is so important. When I write a post, I  sometimes use point form, questions, bold statements, quotes, and usually include examples. Hook your audience right from the beginning. Repeat what works.

2.)    Are you speaking from the heart? Do you show empathy, opening yourself by sharing honest examples of yourself; thus, exposing vulnerability?

Write with no fear – This is no time to consider judgements from others. Remember that what we say is subjective and our job is not to make everyone happy. Take chances and open yourself up…you’ll be amazed at how many others can relate to your story and come on board as more than just followers…but also as fans.

3.) Are you sincere when you show each individual is special?

Accept all attitude—The viewer must feel included and part of a community. They will not only want to stay until the end of the post; but also, will come back to read more. Begin the post with a ‘welcome’. Be inviting for the newbies by encouraging their talents…invite them to guest blog and offer to guest blog on their site. Thank the followers and fans—really show your appreciation by telling them that without an audience, you definitely wouldn’t be a blogger. You need them…and tell them that. Your viewers are needed!

4.) Is your message positive and the new content attainable?

Use the word ‘always’—Present content in a fashion of ‘do’ instead of what ‘not to do’. Keep the negative words out. Instead of using the word ‘never’, use ‘always’. As a lifeguard, I use to call out to a running child to walk on the deck…not the words, “don’t run”. The word ‘walk’ is positive and shows the behaviour you need for them to understand. Yelling the words, “Don’t run”, is negative and plants the seed of the inappropriate action as being acceptable. Words are powerful so check to see the phrases you use in your posts.

For your viewers to respect you, first you must  genuinely respect them. As a blogger, our job is not only to supply valuable content; but also, to make the readers feel special. I use the brand or motto, *conquer all obstacles* because it fits EVERYTHING I truly believe my audience can attain. You can *conquer all obstacles*.

Scams – Beware of the Swarming Sharks

Trust takes a long time to gain and a second to lose.

I know—I’ve been burned. Thankfully, I turned to the Internet and Googled myself silly. While on the world wide web (www), I discovered there are so many of us that are supportive and in the same boat.

What a wonderful feeling to belong in a community of caring people.

Unfortunately, there are those who have not been so lucky. They’ve become a victim of a scammer. Some have lost thousands of dollars and had their dreams to publish and sell their ‘baby’ crushed.

In my prior profession, I was often accused as being too compassionate. Yes, I took my work home with me, and I let the sorrow of others absorb through my skin and sink deep into my veins. I felt compelled to defend my friends. As a teacher, I wanted to take so many of those students home with me…those that I knew were going back to a home that wasn’t a good place for them. Gosh, it’s sad…

Today, I feel the same. I want to help defend my fellow writers. An invisible force is pulling me forward to warn you about the sharks swarming just above your head and ready to dive in for the kill.

So you’ve decided that you’d rather write and leave the business to someone who has the time, knowledge, and ability to promote you and your books. I cannot say I blame you. Promoting is a full time job. And if you’re anything like me, having trouble shifting from the art or craft of writing (which is produced from the one hemisphere of the brain) to the business of selling (on the other hemisphere of the brain), you may not have any other choice. Either you’ll have to hire someone or you’ll have stop writing and begin this new avenue.

Before you decide on hiring anyone to provide promotional services of any kind, do your homework. Ask for referrals from past clients of the business. Watch for any false phrases.

Do not be fresh bait for these phrases:

“We can guarantee book sales”No one can guarantee to sell your book. There are too many other variables that determine success. Too many circumstances that can erupt and are out of the marketer’s control.

Example: Today’s dictating market to favorite genres. Romance is a huge selling genre; where as, western is in a slight slump.

Example: A completed product or manuscript is subjective in the eyes of others. Are you writing in favor to the majority of an audience? Remember, what you like doesn’t dictate what everyone else does. Even a title can sometimes make or break a few sales.

Example: The economic crash or boom can cause market fluctuations.

Fact: Creating an author platform, targeting the right audience, building relationships with readers, generating traffic to the site where your book is sold, will increase the chances of the successful sale of your book—but there are still no guarantees in regards to book sales, and no promotional manager or marketer should ever state as such.

“We can get you into the top search engines”Again, this is a false statement. There are too many active crawlers that constantly hoist new material up and down within seconds.

Fact: Establishing internal and external links will activate webcrawlers to raise your ranks in the search engines, but to state that you and your books will be placed at the top is highly unlikely. Even if you are at the top, you will only be there for a second and then the shift continues.

“We can get you media exposure now”Wrong…Promotion takes time. Building a platform takes time. There’s too much competition out there. A promotional manager has to create an author profile that stands out from the rest, draws attention from the viewers, establish a trusting relationship with the followers, then navigate the fans to the purchase button. Believe me…this does not happen over night. Marketing takes dedication and total commitment from an honest person. Selling the book takes a lot of hard work and even a little luck.

No matter how good something sounds, take a step back and a deep breath. Take time to research and inquire.

Conquer all obstacles and scare away the predators by not supplying them with the bait. Sharks will not stick around if there’s no food to eat.

BOOK DISTRIBUTORS: Lists Authors Can Use Today!

 BOOK DISTRIBUTORS: Lists

Authors Can Use Today!

Today, on *Conquer All Obstacles* I’ve displayed it in a different format than from the usual. Just for a change, I thought I’d present an informative post rather than the usual article.

Why?

Call it a touch of writer’s block; or it may just be the result of our weather (where’s Spring???); okay, can I just blame the lack of creativity because of my down mood?

Yet, I’m sure you will find this information more than useful.

I am in the process of creating a list of distributors for authors. Exposure is the answer. To display our profile and books, here’s a list of sites that we (as authors) can register:

GAINING EXPOSURE—What can I do?

Register, create an author platform, submit synopsis with book covers, add reviews…and don’t forget to HIGHLIGHT your site where your books are sold.

- inReads.com

- Librarything
- Goodreads
- Shelfari
- Anobii
- Authorsden
- NothingBinding
- Weread
- Authortree
- Internet Authors Network – http://www.xenite.org/internet_authors/announcebooks.html
- Authonomy
- Facebook
- Red Room
- Gather.com
- LinkedIn
- Blogged.com
- ShoutLife
- Twitter
- Goodreads
- Book Marketing Network

- Book Blog (Ning)
- WinterFace
- www.polkadotbanner.com – Good new site, but not registered yet.
- Connectviabooks
- www.axisavenue.com – Excellent site to add profile and books and distributers.

Can you help and add anymore for us???? Please feel free to contribute…

When it comes to exposure, what help do I need? Here’s a list of sites that I feel is the job of the publisher to honor distribution of our books. Am I way off base here, or is there something we can do to register our books with these distributors?

For maximum exposure, the publisher must list our books to the following distributors:

- Premium Promotional Services

- Amazon.com
- Barnes & Noble
- Amazon.co.uk
- Buy.com
- WHSmith
- Author House
- Yahoo Books
- Borders.com (uk site)
- Booksamillion

A couple of thoughts from the e-book scene. One site to add is:
http://www.Smashwords.com
Also, don’t forget about Amazon’s digital text platform that lets you upload your book as a kindle book. That address is:
https://dtp.amazon.com/

In Canada, most libraries purchase their books through library services, and the best way I found to get into libraries here, is to contact these library service companies directly. If you offer them a good enough discount on your book, they will include it in their mail outs to libraries. I have sold about 60 copies of FireDrakes through these Canadian library service companies. This may be a small but untapped market for writers in the USA.

http://www.lsc.on.ca/

They service the province of Ontario, which has 1/3 of the population, and are open to self-published works as long as the discount is good.

In Canada, authors also get paid a small amount based on the number of books they have in libraries. It is not very much, but you get paid for each title. The whole idea is to compensate the author sonewhat for lost sales since many people will read the book for free instead of buying it.

Okay. If you are a Canadian, then Google ‘Public Lending Rights’. You will find that there is a window in February/March to submit ISBN’s that match their criteria, which includes all novels. They will pick 25 Canadian libraries, I assume at random, and look for your books. I think they say that the average payment made to authors each year is about $600.00, but they do pay on titles for fifteen years from the publication date.

An author/librarian told me once to donate a copy of my book to a local library, ask them to “catalogue” it, and that will get it into the system. If it is available through their distributor, Baker and Taylor (I think), other libraries can pick it up if they want to. I donate a copy of each of my books to the local library and have been invited for talks and signings.

I hope you find some use in the above information. Good luck in your writing adventures.

God bless;

Jo-Anne

“Read It, Read It, Read All About It”

Now you get to be a fly on the wall.

Who’s wall?

Everyone’s wall who’s talking about you.

How?

Sign up for these two alerts and fill in key words. So simple and cool. Automatically, these alerts will provide you with who’s talking about you or your books.

Why is this important?

> This information will tell you whether or not your webcrawlers are working and you’ve chosen wise tags (key words). If the alerts are sending you your own pages that you’ve social bookmarked (added to Delicious, Digg, Bookmarks, Stumble, etc.), it means you’re doing a great job with your internal links.

I’ve been a guest blogger on some other sites and the alerts have sent me this person’s site with my name quoted. I can then send this information back to the presenter and let them know that their internal links are active. Chances are, they are ranking high in the search engines. (The higher ranking in the search engines, the greater the chances your potential customers are going to find you and your books – the greater chances you will be to successfully sell your books).

> Alerts has sent me quotes of mine that I’ve caught others using. Call it stealing or infringing on copyrights, it is wrong. Others should never take words (claiming them as their own) from someone else without making proper reference. GRRrrrrr!

> I use Alerts to prove how affective my promotional/marketing techniques are working. When I’m promoting, my plan is to create massive exposure of the author and their book(s). So if  I’m the author, every day I expect Alerts to pick up ‘Jo-Anne Vandermeulen’, ‘Conquer All Obstacles’, and ‘Premium Promotional Services’. If I don’t see the Alerts picking up my tags then I know I’m not doing my job. I need to reactivate my internal links and social bookmark my pages. This is why linking blogs with other active bloggers is a great idea. When they social bookmark their page, your tags will automatically be marked and sent to Alerts. A double win.

___________________________________________________________________________________________

wake up Do you keep quotes stickied to your bathroom mirror? Okay, how about around your toilet? In your car? I can practically hear some of you chuckling and see you nodding your heads. See, you haven’t lost your mind…there are others just like you…lol.

There comes a time when I’m feeling down, I need a few reminders. So, I cannot come up with the positives in my brain…I rely on the positive message scrawled on my sticky notes.

Here are some of my favorites:

Where one door closes, another one opens.

Go with the flow.

Keep your eyes open for the unexpected. Don’t be afraid. Seize the opportunities before you.

You have your own answers within you.

“Everybody is talented, original and has something important to say.” >Brenda  Ueland<

“Imagination is the Divine Body in every Man” >William  Blake<

“Be careless, reckless! Be a lion, be a pirate, when you write. Why you are not to be discouraged, annihilated, by rejection slips.” >William Blake<

There are millions of slogans we can use to pull us up from the dark hole, bring us out of that nasty writer’s block, and pick us up off the ground.

Have you got a favorite slogan that works for you? Care to share so we can form a list…?

Sometimes, it’s just great to know we are not alone. It’s okay to have a bad day every now and then. Have you ever caught yourself staring at an empty screen and your mind is completely blank? The creativity isn’t there or you’re unable to ‘think outside the box’?

Here are a few suggestions from famous people:

“Moving around is good for creativity: the next line of dialogue that you desperately need may well be waiting in the back of the refrigerator or half a mile along your favorite walk.” >Will Shetterly<

“Stopping a piece of work just because it’s hard, either emotionally or imaginatively, is a bad idea. Sometimes you have to go on when you don’t feel like it, and sometimes you’re doing good work when it feels like all you’re managing is to shovel shit from a sitting position.” >Stephen King<

“Writing books is the closest men ever come to childbearing.” >Norman Mailer<

Enjoy this week with your writing and remember YOU can*conquer all obstacles*.

Targeting for Mountains Instead of Mole Hills

Targeting for Mountains Instead of Mole Hills

Imagine seeing sharp peaks and welcoming the sight-when sharp vertical slopes brings a smile to your face. Not often in life we anticipate the mountains. Blowing things out of proportion is something we try to avoid. Wouldn’t we rather face the mole hills?

Not when we open our dashboard and click on “stats”. Whether we are talking about our main site where the potential customer can purchase our books or the blog we use to generate our following, the main goal is to keep those viewers coming back and increase our following.

So, how do we ‘conquer all obstacles’ and get that line to keep climbing on the visual graph within our stat page?

Create Great Content:

- Structure, facts, grammar, spelling, and punctuation do play an important role, but there’s more. The content must have feelings-an underlying logic and flow that is easy to absorb.

- The content must be filled with emotions that challenges the reader and can lead to a powerful call to action-provoke an emotional response from the reader.

- Discover that balance between challenging the reader to understand your message, creating the truth, and producing facts without coming across as ‘dry’. We want to product content that is interesting, challenging, and informative-something the reader can take away with an ‘aw’ or ‘wow’ experience. Don’t hide important information, thoughts, or steps; but, don’t toss it in their lap either. Reread your post before publishing and omit unnecessary words. Try it and be amazed at the results.

- The most important thing in content marketing is reliability. You must produce the goods or content consistently or the readers just won’t show up-the mole hill will prevail. The plan is simple. Schedule your posts, be genuine to your followers, and get the content out the day you promised.

Simple Strategies That Will Generate New Readers and Keep Your Original Readers Coming Back:

- Remind the reader to subscribe. Remember, there are newbies coming to your site all the time. Sure you posted the directions initially, but it sure doesn’t hurt to post the simple instructions again. I do this at the bottom of the odd post:

“Interested in reading bi-weekly posts, Jo-Anne Vandermeulen “Conquer All Obstacles” automatically deposited in your email? Please subscribe for FREE by clicking on the button on the side widget on this blog.”

- Send or post an invitation to subscribe and to invite a friend. Please refer to my envelope in the previous post. Viral promotion generates readers.

Send this to a Friend…Please, email this to a friend (place your photo of the envelope). Got a friend that could do with some tips on marketing and promotion themselves and their books? Forward this email on and help grow ‘Conquer All Obstacles‘. If you receive this email from a friend, subscribe to ‘Conquer All Obstacles’ HERE (link you site).”

All of this sounds incredibly easy, but it works. My stats looked more like mountains rather than mole hills. You can ‘conquer all obstacles’ by using these tactics in your next post. So simple.

A Letter Worth Saving

This letter sits in the special section of my purse, hangs with scotch tape draped over my computer tower, and the words will remain forever in my heart.

This letter was sent to me last week by Jay Miller, my first client at Premium Promotional Services.

I want to share this letter with YOU…

Seven weeks ago, I spoke with the Lord.

“Lord,” I said. “I have done what you have asked me to do in writing and publishing these three children’s books for you.

They have turned out beautifully.

Yet, I have spent so much time trying to promote them, and it seems that I’m getting nowhere. I have basically beaten my head against the wall trying, but nothing is working.

At this point, I am asking for your guidance in the direction I need to go, and I need your help.

Basically, His answer was, “Step aside son, let me show you how it’s done.”

His first move was to drop me an Angel from heaven by the name of Jo-Anne Vandermeulen. She directed me to their company called “Premium Promotional Services.” There I met up with her partner named Brian Knight.

From then on, it has been pure heaven.

I don’t know that I can put into words the outstanding job that they have performed for me.

I am simply Awestruck, and amazed at the professionalism at which they’ve performed.

I have received professional weekly updates showing every detail of their work, and the accomplishments of such.  “Awesome!”

I am so very happy I called on the Lord and followed his directions.

I highly recommend this company to any author that is having difficulty as I was. They can deliver for you, I promise.

The best part was, I never had to lift a finger. They did it all.

Thank you both so much for what you’ve done for me.

God is good!

He delivers, and you are his messengers.

Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!

I wonder what next week will bring.

Authors & Marketers: The 5 Most Asked Questions Answered

Cassandra Gold from Midnight Seductions posted an interview she did concerning Authorship and Marketing…Enjoy!

Guest interview — Jo-Anne Vandermeulen

Please welcome guest blogger Jo-Anne Vandermeulen, here to discuss promotion for authors!

Authors & Marketers: Interviews
The 5 Most Asked Questions Answered

“Premium Promotional Tips for Writers”
Author, Founder & Marketer of Premium Promotional Services,
Jo-Anne Vandermeulen
http://vandermeulen.laurusbooks.com

Throughout the year, I have had many opportunities to submit and host interviews. Some have been author focused…others have been market focused…and yet, my favorite is a blend. Perhaps it’s time not to consider both as separate.

Wouldn’t your life be a lot easier if you combined yourself as both an author and marketer?

Here are the top 5 most asked questions:

1.) When should I start marketing?

Building an author platform begins even before the book is released. John Kremar states that a blog should begin as soon as you come up with the idea or know what your book will be about.

2.) I love to write, but I don’t even know where to start. What do I do first?

Whether you are an aspiring author or published, I always give the same advice…start a blog. A website is good, but do you have a place where your followers can interact with you? Think of today’s marketing as more personal…mix formality with conversational writing.

“The best marketing is not selfish. It never has been. It’s caring. It’s understanding your customer or audience and giving them what they want. The best marketing is careful and detailed. The best marketing is personal.” >Carolyn Howard-Johnson – The Frugal Book Promoter and The Frugal Editor <

3.) I’ve got a blog but there’s no one reading it. What do I do to get noticed?

Be proactive – reach out to many social media sites where your audience will be. Post snippets, answer questions, and participate. This will draw attention. Don’t forget to leave your signature with your blog link included.

“Exposure is king. All marketing efforts on and offline should lead people to your blog. If they like what they see, they will buy your book. The blog gives you an opportunity to expose readers to your writing. Your blog gives you the opportunity to publish content to keep your readers interested in what you have to say. The goal is to develop a following that can’t wait to see what you are going to write about. When you release your book, or your next book, you have a built in customer base.” >Todd Rutherford – the “Publishing Guru”, Todd Rutherford, VP of Yorkshire Publishing <

4.) Is there a formula or something I can follow to make sure my blog is what it takes to sell my book?

Check out other bloggers who have high traffic. What makes their blogs successful? And if you’re wanting to sell your book, here’s a short checklist that you can use:

Vital Checklist for Your Blog:

_____ – my book cover is visible even before the reader scrolls.

_____ – there’s a purchase button (preferably embedded in the book cover) or directly under the book.

_____ – there’s a tab or button where readers can click and directly connect with me.

_____ – if given a brief personal bio of myself and I have my full name included.

_____ – the link to the purchase button goes directly to the purchase page.

_____ – a tab indicates more information about the book (brief synopsis, reviews)

_____ – posts include valuable information for my audience and will be an awesome sample of my voice.

5.) How do you do it all? Being an author is one thing, but now I have to market?

Combine authorship with marketing. Sort of like the saying goes, ‘kill 2 birds with 1 stone’. Use your blog as a place to write and market. Learn short-cuts by following the advice of experts. There are many of us out there who are so happy to help and give tips. Do a search and follow these experts. They will save you tons of time and energy. (pssst…I’ve quoted a few above…oh, and then there’s myself…and don’t forget Tony Eldridge.

Oh, and if you want the easy way out…(here’s the plug…lol)…order my book, “Premium Promotional Tips for Writers”. The many many amazing 5-star Amazon reviews don’t lie. There have been others like you who’ve appreciated the much needed advice.

Remember, on the Internet, you’re never alone. You can *conquer all obstacles*.

Welcome To Jo-Anne’s Blog Site

This week only, I’m the FEATURED AUTHOR for the Romance Writer’s United Organization.  Do me the honor and check it out:  I’m so excited! >Jo-Anne is do’n the happy dance<

Welcome to my blog. I’m thrilled you have arrived… >waving and smiling<

“Conquer All Obstacles” is the theme–my message in each post.

Writing under a variety of categories: (‘Learning the Craft of Writing’, ‘Marketing and Promoting’, ‘Goals and Expectations’, ‘Revising’), there are patterns and directions in each post. You will gain a sense of strength and knowledge through many interesting topics.

Like a coach, I want my readers to feel they can trust me. We are on the same team. We have a common goal: to win. I’m here to encourage you; to mold you into stronger players. I will supply the information so you can relate, learn, and have the passion to pursue new and challenging avenues.

A blog is a marketing tool, essential for the writer even before the book is published. We, as writers and readers, are wise. We understand the value of money and time. You’re not going to waste your investments on something you know little or nothing about. This is why it is so important for a writer to build a platform and establish a relationship with their audience. Only when the reader gains knowledge and a sense of worth, will they invest their time and money.

Building this relationship between the writer and reader must occur before the book is published. It takes time to build mutual trust and is necessary for both the reader and writer so they can play together on the same team. If the writer waits until their book hits the shelves, it will be too late.

Feel free to post comments. I’d love to hear from you–communication is an essential component on any winning team or in any successful relationship.

I encourage you to subscribe (new posts will automatically enter your incoming email). Your address is safe with me and you will be receiving bi-weekly information without having to enter my blog each time.

Pass my blog site to others who will benefit. Share the wealth. There’s something to be said about increasing numbers…gains oppositional strength and a tough defense. An unbeatable team.

Together we can ‘conquer all obstacles’.

A LITTLE BIT MORE “ABOUT JO-ANNE VANDERMEULEN”

blog-mar-19
Women-in-Charge: Jo-Anne Vandermeulen

Today’s blog is by Ms. Jo-Anne Vandermeulen,
Internet Promotional Manager, Professional Support Network for Writers, and Prolific Writer of Romantic Fiction

I saunter through open doors. Wide open doors. When an opportunity comes forth and there are no obstacles in the way, there are no fears. There’s nothing to lose.

Since April of 2006, three separate doors opened in my life. I’ve journeyed into three different rooms. Wasn’t searching, just roaming free. More curious rather than desperate to explore and discover what was inside.

In the spring of 2006, I was sent home after spending twenty years teaching full-time. No one plans to get sick; an illness that flicks flames, scorching abilities to die. Yet like any tragedy, a change of perspectives can convert devastations into opportunities. All it takes is the right attitude. So I had to be home all day. Now what do I do?

The first door flew open…

The cloud lifted, moisture disappeared, and my vision came clear. I’ve always wanted to write a book, but never have had the time. So write I did. Seventeen days, after sitting at my computer, I had the rough copy of my first 100,000 word manuscript complete.

By 2008, I had two polished novels ready to be published. Through near a hundred workshops, a few pitching sessions with editors, submission responses by nearly a thousand agents, I soon discovered they all voiced the same concern… “How are you going to promote yourself? Please provide me with information about your author platform.” My first response was: “What? You mean I can’t just write?” There was no where to turn. All doors remained shut.

I set forth to research the area of promotion. I learned I needed to target an audience, build friendships through networks, and provide my followers with a platform they loved. I started my first blog, “Conquer All Obstacles”, providing assistance to fellow writers. After a few posts, the comments started pouring in.

The second door flew open…

Immediately, I discovered my niche. Authors from all over the world cried help, requesting promotional services. Through many hours of studying the promotional business and connecting with professionals, I produced templates for author platforms, explored strategies to target an audience and generated a buzz of massive activity, and discovered techniques to climb to the top of the world wide search engines. And there, I performed my services to over a billion viewers on the Internet. No longer was I invisible. I did it! The large number of hits, responses, and dashboard stats proved I had successfully promoted myself.

The third door flew open…

No fog, with my vision never being so clear, I ran through to the third room. On March 2, 2009 my new business launched into production. With the help of my partner, Brian Knight, Premium Promotional Services opened its doors to serve writers in search of promotional services. Premium Promotional Services is a writer’s solution to all promotional and marketing needs. What a better way for me to share my wealth of knowledge and help my fellow writers. Finally, I can successfully provide a requested service so they can continue to write.

Life is filled with unexpected changes. Quite often a person is forced to exit their comfortable domain. The cliché: ‘When one door closes another one opens’ will expose new rooms. See changes as opportunities. Don’t be afraid to venture into the next room, especially when the door is wide open.

http://gr5mom2.wordpress.com/2009/04/21/blogging-a-delicious-post-devoured-in-one-bite/

3. Can you share with us a few tips for marketing books and other products using the internet?

- Create an attractive blog – Your blog will work as an interaction link to your main site where you sell your books.

- Faithfully, post interesting and interactive articles.

- Design an author platform that will stand out from the rest and feature yourself on this blog.

- Link the purchase button/cover of your book on every page.

- Establish a stationary blog/website – Your site, where you sell your books, should be very user-friendly (simple navigation).

- Install webcrawler – This technique will help to snag your site and have internal and external links so your keywords will rank high in the search engines.

- Remind yourself that ‘marketing’ is a business – Be professional and interact with your customers; yet, don’t be too pushy or you’ll scare them away.

- Include strategies in your marketing plan – Develop a brand/signature, use tags, and network like crazy with your target audience.

- Join discussion groups and promote your site – Constantly promote your site to Internet social media networks like Goodreads, Facebook, Shoutlife, Authorsden, LinkedIn, LibraryThing, Shelfari, Ning.com, Gather.com, Red Room, Twitter, etc.

4. As someone experienced in internet marketing and promotion, what are some of the biggest lessons you’ve learned that you wish someone would have told you when you first started in the business?

It’s a lot of work. I knew this when I opened Premium Promotional Services, but I underestimated the huge time commitment involved in even promoting one client.

Technology is constantly changing, and these changes are occurring faster and faster all the time. To keep up with these rapid advancements, constant education must be a part of my routine. It’s almost like going back to school and having to take a couple of hours of instruction every day just to keep afloat. I guess I needed to actually experience this fast pace before I could really relate. And now that I know, I just hold on and enjoy the ride.

The Internet world is HUGE! The biggest lesson that I’ve learned from starting this business is the sense of community–how vast this writing world really is and the great people I’ve met in this new journey.

5. What advice would you give to someone new to blogging?

KISS. Keep It Simple Silly-don’t be scared and enjoy the creativity that grows naturally inside of you. If you have a problem, ask. There’s so many of us that will just jump at the chance to help. We are all in this together.

If you don’t know your niche, don’t worry. Babble away-there’s no wrong answer. Your audience will guide you…so listen. It takes time, so be patient.

6. What has your experience been with using various forms of social media like LinkedIn and Twitter to promote yourself and or your service offerings?

I connect weekly with a dozen social media networks, each has its own audience and is an effective way to promote. You can never have too many friends…:).

I view the stats on my profile. I determine the time and energy spent at each network directly proportional to the number of hits or views. For example, when I began networking, I was on MySpace because it was quite popular. Now it has died down and the new and upbeat place to hang out is ShoutLife. A promoter must be prepared to change and learn new areas. I find myself on the lookout all the time.

^^^^^^^^^

Thank you, Sharon, for allowing me the time to answer your questions. It is my wish that others will learn from me…as I do love to share the wealth of knowledge to fellow writers.

Please do me the honors and check out my personal blog *Conquer All Obstacles* at: http://www.gr5mom2.wordpress.com. Jo-Anne Vandermeulen’s Working Partner – Brian Knight

Brian's PicAnnouncement

Brian Knight, my working partner at Premium Promotional Services, is the guest blogger at Cicily Janus’ blog *Writing About You*. Cicily’s energy is shown through a fun and creative site. Click HERE for the complete interview.

About Brian’s Blog

*The New Author* is Brian’s site. Over the past 6 months, his thousands of followers have voted him as THE BEST. His site has won several awards:

- Blogging Mentor

- Real Blogs Real People

- Well Worth Watching Blog Award

- Truly Useful Predators and Editors Site Award

- Best Blog of the Day Award

Click HERE to view *The New Author* site.

How Jo-Anne Discovered Brian Knight

Brian and I met online. He nominated my site for the Real Blogs Real People Award. I just had to see who this mystery man was. Clicking on his site, I followed his posts for about 3 weeks. During this time, I sensed a ‘real’ caring person. Brian showed his personality through his writing, producing amazing posts every day of the week. Wow, I thought—this man is dedicated and he really cares for his fellow authors. Click HERE to learn more about Brian Knight.

I sent my first email just following the New Year of 2009. I asked him what he loved doing the most. He answered that he really enjoyed conversing and interacting with authors. His passion was writing and reading. Shortly after our first conversation, I shared my vision with him. (Now, talk about trust…).

Brian was thrilled to be pulled on board and agreed to start a business. Together, we decided on a name, Premium Promotional Services, where we both agreed that we wanted the authors to have total freedom to continue writing while we took over ALL their promotional endeavors. Brian desperately wanted to help authors; expose them and their books by providing author interviews and book reviews. Being a blog/website design specialist, he added his specialty onto the list of offered services.

“Brian has provided a world of service for new authors with his blogspot The New Author. Each and every post gives insight into the intricacies of breaking into the very competitive published market. His interviews allow new published authors to share their experiences and allow the author to introduce themselves and their books to the world. I strongly believe this new venture of Brian’s is destined to be successful.” >Stephen Chiarelli, Author of The Connected<

Having Brian’s specialties (adding them to my professional ability to advertise), we have a dynamic promotional business for authors called Premium Promotional Services. Click HERE to view the site.

“Jo-Anne’s knowledge of writing and what it takes to promote your work is awesome. I’d recommend her to any author looking to increase their exposure and name recognition.” Anne Kane – Six time Published Author

Over the past 3 months, I have never regretted the decision to have Brian as my working partner. He has shown complete dedication, an abundant compassion, and total professionalism in everything he does.

Many others have testified to his awesome abilities. Here, I’ve posted just two:

“Thanks Brian, You wrote three wonderful reviews for my books. I really appreciate it. Thanks for the outstanding job you’ve done with everything else as well. My website looks great now. It was a pleasure doing business with Premium Promotional Services. I will surely be a return customer.
Remember, a little faith will get your soul to heaven. A lot of faith will bring heaven to your soul. Thanks again my friend.”
>Author Jay Miller<

“I would like to thank you, Brian for rolling up your sleeves and working so hard. Who we really are and what we are made of usually doesn’t materialize until the job is done. And I can say that you have been remarkable.” >M.L. St. Sure, Novelist<

To read more testimonies about Brian click HERE.

Our latest addition, onto our business, is a NEW Cyber Bookstore. We welcome all authors who have their books listed with Amazon to proudly display your own published books for FREE. All authors and readers, come on into the Premium Promotional Services Bookstore and meander around the over 60 titles in stock so far. Click HERE to enter the store.

Once again, God has showered me with blessings. The doors continue to open wide and He is showing me the way. A journey I never dreamed of going alone.

Twusted Twitter Twools and Twips

Why is everyone talking about Twitter?

Is this just a phase or will this be the next form of interaction to replace our blogs?

Today, many media social networkers are twalking or twyping with a form of speech impediment. But this is no speech impediment…this is the new world of Twitter.

Twitter

Twitter is a VERY popular FREE micro-social network. A service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent messages (no longer than 140 characters). http://www.twitter.com

Twusted Twitter Tools:

Today, there are many tools for Twitter users and there are more and more surfacing all the time. Which tools will prove valuable will depends on our needs and purposes for tweeting.

Again, if you want to *Conquer All Obstacles* (just like blogging), you must ask yourself…

Why am I tweeting? If you are trying to build an author platform, target an audience, and generate traffic back to your site where your books are sold, then these are a few tools that you cannot afford to be without:

> Twaitter – twitter tool for us to reschedule reoccurring tweets. Free  http://www.twaitter.com/

> Tweetbeep – Discover what others are twitting about that has to do with you…Twitter Alerts – http://tweetbeep.com/

> Socialoomph - For free, set up around 2 weeks of tweets, going out in durations during prime time (6:00-9:00, 12:00-1:00, and 18:00 -20:00 est).

> Bit.ly – allows users to shorten, share, and track links (URLs). Reducing the URL length makes sharing easier. http://bit.ly/pages/about/

Sites for Writers Who Tweet:

Twitter Directory…A MUST have “WRITER’S ” List…if you twitter, this list is valuable: http://bit.ly/15QlDC

Marketing Tips For Authors: Top Ten Ways Authors Can Use Twitter: Dana Lynn Smith: http://bit.ly/28ayu

Twitter Tips

See your Twitter profile page…

1.) Bio – Most followers will read the one-line bio under “SETTINGS”. Include a direct link to a profile page rather than sending them to the homepage profile.

Example:

View profile of Jo Van @Prempromotions – Int Promo Manager. http://bit.ly/2UV7y

2.) Follow-up: Investigate your followers. Send a direct message.

Example:

Ty for following. I’m a Sask. Gal, runs my own Internet Promo business at: http://bit.ly/6aCh3 and personal blog at: http://bit.ly/pGGZX

3.) Feeds: A simple feed that allows your twitter post to automatically show up on your blog or website is by clicking on “SETTINGS”, scrolling down to “MORE INFO URL” and clicking on the “BLUE LINK – YOU CAN ALSO ADD TWITTER TO YOUR SITE HERE” and just follow the steps.

4.) Promote: Advertise your @prempromotions where ever and all over. Include your twitter link to your signature, add comments on twitter discussions, and leave a direct message with others who are following you.

A writer must conquer all obstacles.

> You must build an author platform that stands out from the rest.

> Target an audience suited to your niche or genre.

> Generate traffic (Friends/fans) back to your site.

> Display a fabulous site, highlighting you and your books. (Do not forget the visible button to purchase your book).

Take heed to the above tools, sites and tips.

Only when you continuously add a ‘w’ after the ‘t’ will you know you’ve been Tweeting a tad too long…lol.

“Seven weeks ago, I spoke with the Lord. Basically, His answer was, “Step aside son, let me show you how it’s done.” His first move was to drop me an Angel from heaven by the name of Jo-Anne Vandermeulen. “Awesome!” I am so very happy I called on the Lord and followed his directions. I highly recommend this company to any author that is having difficulty as I was. They can deliver for you, I promise. The best part was, I never had to lift a finger. They did it all. Thank you both so much for what you’ve done for me. God is good! He delivers, and you are his messengers. Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!”

And yes those two and other social network sites are not rocket science to set up. What Jo-Anne taught me is how much I didn’t know. I didn’t know really how to create a blog and I really didn’t know how to bring it all together with the smoke and the mirrors known as SEO, search engine optimization. Her creativity and diligence is well worth the price of admission. If you have a book you want to market, do not miss this opportunity to work with Jo. She will get you to where you need to be. “Premium Promotional Tips for Writers”

Author Jo-Anne Vandermeulen

Review by:

Internationally Recognized Technical and Fictional Writer with Over 70 Books in Print –

DUNCAN LONG – 2010-04-29

So you’ve written your masterpiece. Now what? Sadly that’s where most books about writing leave off. Gladly, that’s pretty much where Jo-Anne Vandermeulen’s Premium Promotional Tips for Writers takes up.

And not just sort of.

Premium Promotional Tips for Writers offers excellent advice that (even after decades in the publishing industry) I’ve never seen anywhere else. Page after page of fantastic ideas. Heck, I found myself not just reading it to review the book, but taking notes so I could apply her secrets to my own career.

This book shows how to promote yourself, build a following, and make it big as an author.  And most of the promotional secrets not only work, but are easy to execute and quite often free.

There are a lot of good books about writing out there; this book belongs at the top of the list ahead of all the others. My advice to any author who has mastered all the basic writing skills and wants to move into top-list professional status: Read this book!

A Reader’s Perspective: Interview with Author Jo-Anne Vandermeulen

*8 Million members on the social media  network, Goodreads…ANNOUNCEMENT – Jo-Anne Vandermeulen is 17th most followed! (Click the button to request friendship)

*Goodread’s Reader, Milly,

Interviews Goodread’s Author,

Jo-Anne Vandermeulen*

MILLY – What inspires you to write the way that you do?

JO-ANNE – Mostly, I write naturally. The words come to me from my thoughts. The thoughts come from prior experiences which is mixed with a highly and vivid imagination.

Many of the scenes are created from where I’ve been. The characters are completely fictional—created personalities evolve or grow as the story proceeds.

>When I wake up, I cannot wait to get writing. It’s like reading a real good book…I cannot wait to see what happens on the next page, and how the character transpires.<

The plot or story is pre-planned, yet  the details are created as I write.

My muse rouses after I’ve read a good book, seen a great movie, or even listened to someone talk. My dreams are also another means of inspiration.

MILLY – Who influences you the most?

JO-ANNE – To be honest…God influences me the most. I hand over the ‘job’ to Him. God leads the way…oh, and to set the record straight, “Conquer All Obstacles” is not a religious book or a Christian novel.

MILLY – If you compared yourself to any other writer, who do you think you share similarities with?

JO-ANNE - I think I share similarities with the authors’ books that I enjoy reading.

I really like the way Sidney Sheldon writes some of his novels. At the beginning of the book, separate chapters are introduced with a ‘hook’ and gripping story-line. About the middle of the book, Sheldon then braids all the characters and each separate plot until the explosive end.

Currently, my favourite authors are Nicholas Sparks, Joy Fielding , and Jodi Picoult.

“I would compare Jo-Anne Vandermeulen’s style to perhaps Joy Fielding or Jodi Piccoult. An awesome fast-paced story.”>C .Lee 5-Star Amazon review

MILLY – When did you start writing? What did you start writing?

JO-ANNE – I started writing when I was going to school. I remember back when I was in Elementary, I’d write poems and short stories. Quite often, mine were  selected to be read aloud to the rest of my classmates.

I had pen-pals growing up. Gosh, I remember writing so many pages that I had trouble closing the envelope.

I wrote daily in a journal.

My book writing began in 2006. My first book was actually three. I wrote an inspirational trilogy.

MILLY – Have you always wanted to be an author? Or was this career choice a surprise?

JO-ANNE – I’ve always wanted to write a book, but never had the time. In 2006, when I got sick, I had the time to become an author.

>Like my illness, this career choice was a complete surprise.<

MILLY – When you write, do you draw on personal experiences? Or do you make everything up?

JO-ANNE
– “Conquer All Obstacles” is completely fiction. I made everything up…but…an author writes from what he/she knows.

“Premium Promotional Tips for Writers is nonfiction. I wrote this book from personal experiences.

MILLY – Who was your favorite author when you were young?

JO-ANNE - When I was young, I only read what I had to.

>I hated reading!<

I had a lot of trouble with the education system. I failed the school’s reading program because I was so behind.  And I had a difficult time catching-up as we moved around quite a bit.

>In Grades 3-6, I failed the regular language arts program and was forced into a remedial reading program. I never passed a spelling test.<

Miraculously, I entered grade seven and things changed…I graduated from the remedial reading program and entered the regular English program. By the end of that year, I was rated top 1/3rd of my class and didn’t even have to write the final.

I never had a favourite author until I was in high school and had to read “The Stone Angel” by: Margaret Laurence.  Suddenly, my attitude changed, and I began to enjoy reading.

>Looking back, I actually fell in love with writing before reading.<

After high school, I was accepted in the University of Saskatchewan where I earned a four year Professional A Certificate and a Degree in Bachelor of Education.

>I majored in English. I loved to read! Since I could relate to reading difficulties, I wanted to help students struggling with language arts.<

I taught school for 20 years. During the final decade, I taught grades 5 & 6 Language Arts. My favourite author was Gary Paulsen.

MILLY – Can you describe your writing process on how to create a book (novel)?

JO-ANNE – Creating a novel, I first create a story outline— a beginning, middle, and an end. Then I add the ‘filling’. I write a rough copy. I try not to edit until I’m finished. I write a chapter a day, so within a month, the book is done….well, the rough copy is finished.

Once the rough copy is complete, I go back and summarize each scene/plot on sticky-notes. Each character has his/her own colour. Strewn down my hallway, looking like a valley, are coloured stick-notes of the entire story—the escalating scenes are posted higher like mountain peaks.

>In my opinion, writing the story is the easy part…it’s the editing that is the most difficult. I must rewrite the first 20 pages about 35 times.<

I sift through each sentence of the entire book for clarity and improved description and/or vocabulary. Sometimes, I’ll even add another scene; but mostly, I’ll cut and cut and then cut some more.

>Less words rather than more is often more powerful.<

The final stage of edits is the punctuation/grammar/spelling check.

After I  read the novel aloud (from front to back), I hand the manuscript over to one or more critique partners. He/she will submit his/her evaluation which I’ll consider for more changes.

Voluntary people then read the ‘working’ manuscript and add their opinions.

I enter contests and have judges critique and write their suggestions.

Once I’ve taken in everyone’s opinions/suggestions, I revise the manuscript again.

Finally, I’m ready to hire a professional editor.

Together, we go through each chapter and discuss even more changes.

Once the book has been read over again for a final coherence, it is ready for publication.

MILLY – Did you ever feel like you chose the wrong career? Or is the dream kept alive by the excitement that you are actually doing what you dreamed of doing?

JO-ANNE – Becoming an author actually found me rather than me choosing writing as a career. The dream of writing a book was just a start…it is my passion that keeps the career going. I love writing!

Since publishing my first book women’s fiction (suspense/romance), “Conquer All Obstacles”, many doors have opened. I’ve expanded and grown.

I let God lead the way. He’s with me as I enter these foreign rooms. After writing my first book, I began studying the business side to writing. Marketing became my new passion. Not only did this new journey help in selling my book; but also, resulted in my next book which is a nonfiction called “Premium Promotional Tips for Writers”.

MILLY – When you write your novels, do you intend them for a certain audience?

JO-ANNE – I don’t target a certain audience when I write. It’s after the book is complete that I decide on who would enjoy or benefit the most.

“Conquer All Obstacles” is written for ages 18 and over and for those who are searching for an intelligent read. I don’t ‘spell’ everything out, it is up to the reader to make inferences. There are twists in the plot that challenge the reader…kind of like that ‘oh wow!’ feeling of total shock. I feel that the reader has to be prepared to ‘think for themselves’. Not the kind of book to skim…the details are there, but are only presented once. I have written “Conquer All Obstacles” so the reader becomes the characters and live the story. Definitely filled with roller coaster emotions with growth happening in each character…so a learning book for themselves,  if one can relate to the drama.

MILLY – What is your favorite novel/article/short story that you have written to date? Why, and do you consider this to be your best accomplishment?

JO-ANNE – “Conquer All Obstacles” is my favourite novel to date. The characters and story have stuck with me. I consider this novel, as the best book I’ve ever read in my life.

Photobucket

MILLY – Any hints to aspiring writers?

JO-ANNE – New authors need to write the entire story before thinking about the ‘work’ that goes into publishing. Enjoy the journey and really spill everything out. Don’t worry about mistakes or whether what you’ve written makes sense…just get it down.

If your goal is to publish your book, be prepared to persist, persevere and have a lot of patience.

Keep your goals attainable. It’s okay to plan, but try not to plan the outcome. Keeping your expectations in tact is HUGE!

I often tell new writers to start a blog. It’s free and simple. By creating short articles (the topic should be something you’re passionate about…it shouldn’t be a chore) in your blog is the first taste of publication. Reactions and responses from your viewers will most likely guide and encourage you to write some more….and the key to become a better writer is to write every day.

MILLY – Where can readers find you and order your books?

JO-ANNE – If you Google my name, you’ll be scrolling for a long time…lol. I’m on around 30 social media sites. I love to network—chat openly with my readers—support writers.

JO-ANNE – My first choice, at the time (almost 3 years ago), was to go the traditional publishing route. I queried/sent submissions to a lot of different agents and had a lot of nibbles, but no real bites. It was then I realized that in order for me to ‘get in’ or accepted was going to be very difficult. The traditional publishers were very tight.

>I took the rejections as a sign to explore other options to publish<

I looked into self publishing and small publishing firms. The process was achievable and very attractive.

>Self/small publishing allows me to attain the control of my book. I’m in control of the who, where and what is done with the final product. It feels more personal and my style.<

Since the main obstacle to self or small publishing is the expectation of having full responsibility to market, I knew I could do it.

>Marketing is my passion—my niche<

I must also add, that the time frame (going the traditional route) didn’t sit right with me. I didn’t want to wait 2 or more years to see my book in print.

MILLY – If a big publishing house offered to publish another book of yours, would you?

JO-ANNE – No…but if a traditional publishing firm requested to republish a book I’ve already published, I’d probably take them up on their offer. For example, if a legit traditional publishing house offered to republish “Conquer All Obstacles” or “Premium Promotional Tips for Writers” I’d probably say yes.

When another new book becomes available and a big publishing house offered to publish it, I’d really have to think about it before I gave them my answer.

MILLY – When it comes to writing non-fic vs fiction, which do you prefer, and why?

JO-ANNE – For me, nonfiction is easier than fiction….yet, I enjoy writing fiction more than nonfiction.

I enjoy writing fiction because I can fly with my imagination. The characters become real and the plot becomes so interesting…it’s just plain dern exciting…lol.

I often compare writing fiction as to reading a new fabulous novel. Just like reading, I cannot wait to  find out what’s going to happen in the written story.

MILLY – Can you relate to Tara in any way? Or is she completely the opposite of you?

JO-ANNE – I can totally relate to all of my characters. A writer has to be able to relate so they can crawl into his/her ‘head’ and write in their point of view.

I can even relate to my villain, Devin. In order for me to portray his ‘real’ malicious character, I had to go into his head. Now, because I cannot relate to an abusive perpetrator, I had to do a lot of research. It’s a real challenge to become a character you’re not.  Reading books, interviewing people, and even watching the hour show ‘Criminal Minds’, helped me understand the insanity of an individual who turns to violence.

Another example of how I can relate to my characters  is when I crawled into Josh’s head. I wrote the scene of him making love to Tara…and wrote it in his point of view. I could have written this passionate scene in Tara’s ‘head’, but wanted the readers to be able to relate and understand Josh’s feelings and emotions. Now for me to be a man in this intimate role, I had to really use my imagination and portray the scene in his perspective. I was so so thrilled when I presented chapter one to ‘men’ readers and they responded by telling me that I ‘nailed’ the scene perfectly.

MILLY – In Conquer all Obstacles, who is your favourite character and why?

JO-ANNE – I have to say that Marvin is my favourite character. He is so likeable. Even though Marvin is an adult who is mentally challenged, he holds the story together like mortar in a brick building, and is often the smartest among all as he presents life in a simple fashion.

MILLY – What is in the cards for your career?

JO-ANNE – Daily, I have been marketing on the Internet and building my author platform by targeting my audience and  generating relationships.

>For online marketing, exposure is the key.<

Presenting my books to online distributors, writing guest posts, submitting articles to magazines, responding to interviews, and adding valuable content to my blogs where my followers can take away,  are all part of the marketing tactics.

I read for new marketing strategies and share my knowledge with others. It is important to supply ‘information’ so new friends will be attracted and initial followers will keep coming back. Friends become followers, followers become fans…and it is the fans who’ll most likely purchase my books.

I’m in the process of expanding my viewing audience. Instead of just sharing practical marketing tips for writers, I’m in the process of generalizing these ideas and targeting entrepreneurs, musicians, marketers, and all those who are selling products online and need more exposure. New editions for “Premium Promotional Tips for Writers” will most likely be written.

My next plan is to promote locally. In the Fall, I’ll contact the papers and other forms of media. I’ll be heading out on a physical book tour and attend my own book launching or signings. This is when the author becomes a publicist, marketer, and distributor…and all at the same time.

MILLY – Thanks so much for giving me this opportunity to get in another writers head! I appreciate it.

Milly

Any closing thoughts?

JO-ANNE – I’d like to thank you, Millie. I really enjoyed doing this interview with you. Very unique questions, with the perspective from the reader…questions and answers many viewers will enjoy reading.

Perhaps, Milly, you can post or provide your review you wrote for “Conquer All Obstacles”. Many are interested, in someone’s honest opinion, who has read the book. Many 5-star Amazon and Goodread’s reviews can be found…but the viewers may want your personal-take.

Until our paths cross again…take care and God bless.

Jo

A Valuable Compendium of Marketing Tips and Tricks

 “PREMIUM PROMOTIONAL TIPS FOR WRITERS”

By: Jo-Anne Vandermeulen

Premium Book Reviews – Written by Sabrina Sumsion – 05/28/10 (http://bit.ly/3uUNg9 )

As many of you know, I am a literary publicist and I wrote Produce, Publish, Publicize which covers developing, publishing and selling a book as well.

Real-World Instructional Techniques!

As such, I can put my stamp of approval on Premium Promotional Tips for Writers and say, this book has good stuff!

The Answers to Online Promotioon!

Jo-Anne covers a little bit about publishing and choosing the proper venue for you but her main focus is on teaching authors how to drive people to your online venues and make sales.

Jo-Anne is dead on that marketing starts before your book is published and released.  Get a blog, start posting and give relevant information or bits of your writing to entice your audience to hang around.  Social networks are also very important.  Find people who are interested in reading your genre and connect to them.

I especially like Jo-Annes tips for finding your target audience.  It is so important to find your audience and cater to their needs.  If you have a book discussing the complexities of binary applications you should not be trolling teeny-bopper websites to find readers.  Know who wants to read your book and go get them.

If you want to promote anything on the internet, I strongly suggest you order a copy of Premium Promotional Tips for Writers.  Jo-Anne has compiled a valuable compendium of tips and tricks suitable for beginners and proficient with the internet.  The book is available in eBook as well as hardcopy. To purchase, click HERE.

The Secret to Success is FACEBOOK

Almost 500 MILLION Users on FACEBOOK

If your goal is to sell a product online, ignore the negativity from the media about Facebook. Perhaps, if you hate Facebook, it’s time to change your attitude. With nearly 500 million Facebook users, how can you afford NOT to be there?

Do you want to sell more books?

Today, Facebook is my #1 social media site on the net. Every morning I post links about marketing tips, new reviews and interviews. Included, I post updated social status information about my personal life. Short, snappy notes, keep my followers up to date and interested.

>FACT – 41% of American households have a FACEBOOK account. Nearly, 500 MILLION users!<

How do I direct my viewers from Facebook back to my site where my books are sold?

1.) Know your audience – To get attention and keep my audience from leaving and wanting to come back, I create unique pages that are on topics of interest. I put myself in their shoes so I know what interests them.

>The majority of the FB audience are women over the age of 45 and making over 60K annually. 53% have children<

My feature page is  filled with pictures, podcasts and valuable content or resource materials—topics  suited to the majority of the FB audience.

*The link I use will take the viewers back to my site where my books are sold.*

2.) Be genuine, prove your an expert, and show interest – Again, think of where your audience will hang- out on Facebook. Join FB group pages. Engage with your audience by participating in discussions. Leave comments, ask questions, and respond to concerns. Be fun. Click the thumbs-up to show interest in their links and posts.

3.) Promote your FB Fan Pages and FB Group – Don’t forget to invite others to your fan page by leaving a functioning link at the bottom of your blog posts or as part of your signature.

Example:

10 Amazing 5-Star Amazon Reviews for “…Promotional Tips…” Author Jo-Anne Vandermeulen

A flutter of excitement and anticipation stirs within the pit of your stomach…how do you measure success? Does this feeling happen after you’ve conquered all obstacles?

There’s not a right or wrong answer. Everyone will have their own unique event or moment of gratitude. What is your definition of success?

For me, there’s nothing better than receiving positive feedback from a reader…and this week has been the BEST!

My fiction (suspense/romance), “Conquer All Obstacles” has many many 5-star Amazon reviews and is now becoming popular locally/physically. It’s so cool when: book clubs study my novel and ask for me to guest in their meetings; or when I submerge from the pool water to have someone approach to tell me that my book is the best they have read.

My nonfiction resourcePremium Promotional Tips for Writers” is quickly rising to the top. Today, there are 10 amazing 5-star Amazon reviews….YIPEE!!!

Here are a couple 5-star reviews posted this week:

“The best how-to book I have ever read…”
Premium Promotion Tips for Writer is by far the best how-to book I have ever read! Not only because of the valuable information contained in it (and there was a ton), but because of the authors presentation of the information, this book was actually fun to read. Reading this book did not feel like work at all. Jo-Anne’s voice and bright smile came through the text on every page. I found myself stopping after every other page to make the changes she recommended to all of my websites. They were so simple and obvious, yet I had no idea what I was doing wrong until she shared her experiences and tips with me.

It does not matter if you are promoting a book, a business or an upcoming special event; you have got to get this book to help you get the word out to millions of people in a very cost effective (free) way. I highly recommend Premium Promotional Tips for Writers, you will not be disappointed. Or don’t get this book and leave those millions of customers for me! Thanks Jo-Anne! >Jon Renaud – Author of Dereliction of Duty, a military suspense novel <

It’s so great to have so much information in one place. Marketing requires creativity and the enthusiasm to keep on going, day after day. Premium Promotional Tips provides both information and inspiration. >Dana Taylor – Author of Devil Moon: A Mystic Romance <

Yet, even with all the recent awesome hype about my books, I must admit that the most satisfaction comes when I hear or read a note of gratitude. I feel successful when I know I’ve helped my fellow writer. This person has had a problem or obstacles and needed help. To aide or direct in this person’s journey to overcome or conquer all obstacles is a complete thrill.

PPS Book Title Promotion – “Garden of Heaven: An Odyssey” by: Malcolm R. Campbell

3-Star Magical Realism

Take a journey of mind and body.

The wisdom of the elders is passed from one age to the next. As this wisdom is passed to the younger age some experience a change in their life while others experience a journey that transcends both time and space. In “Garden of Heaven an Odyssey” we journey with David as he makes the transition from boy to man.
On David’s tenth birthday his grandmother, Katoya, gave him a wondrous gift – magic. Not just any magic, but the magic of nature and the secrets the universe holds in that magic. With the help of Maisto, the black raven, Katoya demonstrates how that magic works and also sets David on a path that he will travel long into his life.

As he grows and learns the ways of his people from Katoya he also learns the common sense and hard work of life from his parents and grandfather. All of these lessons combine to shape the man he will become. However, the journey of the universe often takes unusual turns and David finds himself with both lost time and memory. As he puts the puzzle of his journey together he is introduced to multiple and varied individuals; all of whom are there for a reason.

Will David put together the pieces of the puzzle and truly understand the journey of his life? How will his journey impact his friends and family?

“Garden of Heaven an Odyssey” is the culmination of author Malcolm R. Campbell’s imagination and attention to detail. It is this fountain of detail that anchors his story between reality and the dream realm. Campbell develops characters that possess a certain depth and connectivity. The vivid settings will entice your senses and elicit memories in the minds of the readers.

“Garden of Heaven an Odyssey” is the fourth novel published by author Malcolm R. Campbell. Like the odyssey novels of old this epic is sure to capture your mind as you twist and turn through an ever morphing journey until you reach the end. I recommend this book to those with a vivid imagination and a mind ready to see a larger scene.

PPS Book Title Promotion – “The Complimate Quotient” By: Monica Strobel

4-Star Inspirational/Motivational

Who Have You Complimented Today?

This book, like a compliment, is a life enhancing tool.

You look nice today. You did a great job on that project. Wow, that was a great dinner. The house looks awesome. All of these are compliments and many of us have heard them from time to time. Truth be told, we don’t hear compliments as often as we should. Most of the time we wait for that big time moment to offer compliments but in “The Compliment Quotient” we see the true power of compliments in everyday life. As we read we soon learn that giving compliments is not only uplifting to the person we give it to but it also provides a boost to us.

“The Compliment Quotient” delivers more then just why we should give compliments to those we come into contact with. It explains: how to give a compliment; when to give a complaint; the benefits of giving compliments and how to take a compliment when we receive one.

“The Compliment Quotient” is a roadmap intended to help navigate us through the misconceptions of compliments and enable us to look for opportunities to give more compliments on a daily basis. Monica Strobel expresses the importance and need for compliments in today’s world throughout this book. Her desire to motivate and inspire us to up-lift those in need can be felt on every page of “The Compliment Quotient.” The experience shared by Strobel and her friends provide validation and support to the power of compliments.

“The Compliment Quotient” provides that little nudge of positive thinking that, at some time or another, we all need. I recommend this motivational resource to anyone who must deal with hardship and/or difficulties in their life. That, in my opinion, is everyone.

Storms in life will come and go but we have the ability to provide something positive and up-lifting to everyone around us – every day.

PPS Book Title Promotion – “Pax Corpus” Author: Ryan S. Fortney

4-Star Dark Fantasy

To protect and serve the survivors…this is Pax Corpus.

The virus that brought about the apocalypse quickly turned into an epidemic before anyone truly knew what was happening. Dante Marcellus, then of the NYPD, soon found himself protecting the last remnants of humanity, as they evacuated from New York, from blood thirsty, ravenous zombies. The murder of the president by a zombie sends the country into marshal law. As he, and his unit, clear another neighborhood of possible evacuees things take a turn for the worst. A routine mission to a bank unleashes visions and creatures never before seen. In “Pax Corpus,” Dante struggles to survive in a dangerous and uncertain future without memories from his past.

As Dante’s memories come back things continue to spin out of control. Soon he questions his own sanity as the truth of the situation is discovered. Unfortunately for Dante his troubles are far worse then zombies. A third group is determined to usher in a new era; one without humans. As the mystery unravels Dante and his unit discover the plot and set out to stop it. But the forces against Pax Corpus are closer than even they now. As the odds build against Dante he grows more determined to survive and save those around him. In “Pax Corpus,” we see the power of determined survival.

Will humans be eradicated? Can Dante put the pieces of his past together in order to untangle the secret surrounding the zombies?

From the first word, Ryan S. Fortney weaves a fast paced story of survival, thrills and horror. With each passing page, it is virtually impossible not to be absorbed in the struggle of man versus extinction. The more you read the more you connect with the characters and their will to survive.

The strength of “Pax Corpus” lies in the plot and ever changing scenes of struggle and survival; the characters grow, adapt and transform from page to page as circumstances and challenges confront them. This novel is for those who enjoy apocalyptic sagas and mental thrill rides.

Author Ryan S. Fortney’s debut novel is sure to draw you in and toy with your sense of reality. This is a story that will flash in your mind long after the last page.

PPS Book Title Promotion – “Poison Reality: A Symphony of Bittersweet” By: Nedyne Shorts-Nettles

3-Star Contemporary Fiction

The bitter end to hatred…

The strife and struggles of dysfunctional families are seen everyday. There are, at times, those examples of success that provide hope and a silver lining to an otherwise bad situation. In “Poison Reality” we see the catastrophic damage caused by a few, the strong emotions stirred by love and the consequences brought about by decisions made from hate and anger.

Each Character in “Poison Reality” has their faults, worries, and shortcomings. Each also handles those aspects of their life differently; some through alcohol, some through violence and some through improving themselves as best they can. Ironically, it is through a violent act that one catches a glimpse of the life he could have had. But is it too late for him?

“Poison Reality” delves into the darkness surrounding dysfunctional families and the damaging effects those individuals have on people around them. All is not lost though as a sliver of hope and redemption shines through the shadows. Shorts-Nettles has developed a plot driven story that possess a certain emotional connectivity that we can all relate to. The surreal settings and events that follow each character of the story will tug at your heart, anger you and leave you thinking for after the last word.

“Poison Reality” is the debut novel by author Nedyne Shorts-Nettles. This emotional account of multiple individuals tied together by violence and insecurities strikes hard at the core of many fears we have for family members. I recommend this book to those who enjoy stories that engage the emotions by connecting with real life situations.

Shelley Hitz Interviews Jo-Anne Vandermeulen

A Self-Publishing Coach, Shelley Hitz believes *If You Can Dream It – You Can Do It!* Click HERE to read more.

Shelley – Welcome, Jo-Anne, and thank you for agreeing to interview with us. Why don’t we start off by hearing a little bit more about you. You use to be a teacher, how did you get into writing?

Jo-Anne – Thank you for having me…okay, here it goes…lol…
I taught for 20 years, then in April of 2006, I went in to see the Doctor. It was on a Wednesday, and that Friday, I was back in my classroom, packing-up all my teaching materials, never to return.
I was devastated! Really didn’t think I knew anything else, but to teach. I remember my counsellor trying to snap me out of my severe depressive state…she asked me what else I’ve always wanted to do. I chuckled and made a smug remark, “Well I’ve always wanted to write a book, but I’ve never had time”. She stopped, peering over her tiny spectacles, “Now you have time” .
And that’s how I got into writing. Lol…I remember sitting down to write my first book…I could barely sleep…I was so excited. Couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next…just like reading a real good book.
“Writing saved my life…literally…”
I actually completed my first 100,000 word (400 page) book in 17 days…although it never got published…lol…That novel, “On Guard” did get accepted by 3 different agents as a full submission (although rejected at the end)…AND I got to personally pitch it to the editor of Kensington Publishing where they wanted to read the full manuscript (although, again, was rejected).
I just ‘chalk-up’ “On Guard” as a study to the craft of novel writing…kinda like an education course.

Shelley – Can you tell us about the books you have published and the one that you are currently working on?

Jo-Anne - Sure…Since 2009, I have 2 published books. One is a suspense/romance (seeing ALL 5-star Amazon reviews…and there’s talk of turning this novel into a movie) called “Conquer All Obstacles”…the title is from the brand I created. The second is a non-fiction resource (user-friendly marketing tips) called “Premium Promotional Tips for Writers”.
The one I’m working on is another non-fiction resource called “Internet Marketing Made Easy”. I have written this next book for a more general audience—for anyone who has products to sell online, including authors.
Here are short synopsises of each book:
1.)  Conquer All Obstacles”A WOMAN WHO WANTS TO FIND LOVE … WILL DO WHATEVER IT TAKES FOR A HAPPILY-EVER-AFTER … EVEN TANGLING WITH A PSYCHOPATH … YET, LOVE HAS THE POWER TO … CONQUER ALL OBSTACLES. Middle-aged divorcee, Tara Robstead, wants more than a secret love affair with her boss, Josh Henderson. Yet, her search for a happily-ever-after costs her more than a price paid in blood-her soul is slaughtered.
(Available in most eBook formats and paperback) Purchase – http://bit.ly/cVE4A6
2.) “Premium Promotional Tips for Writers”A “must-have” resource book filled with practical online marketing tips for those with books or other products to sell. Although this book was written for writers, these promotional tips can be applied to any products you may wish to promote via the Internet. You will learn how to target your audience, create massive exposure, and drive traffic back to the site where your books or other products are sold.
(Available in most eBook formats and paperback) Purchase – http://bit.ly/8X3xtX
3.)   “Internet Marketing Made Easy” – Contents include:
  • CREATING A FOLLOWING -  BLOGGING
  • GUARANTEEING MASSIVE EXPOSURE – SOCIAL NETWORKING
  • MAKING MONEY – User-Friendly Selling Tips
  • ATTRACTING CLIENTS – Creating a Platform
  • SAVING ENERGY – Targeting Your Audience
  • MANAGING TIME – Balancing Online Activities
  • LEARNING SUCCESSFUL MARKETING STRATEGIES – Informative Interviews
  • REACHING YOUR GOAL -  Success Here I Come!
  • GLOSSARY – Definitions
(Available in most eBook formats and paperback) – Available NOW! Click HERE
.
Shelley – You published with The Laurus Company, can you tell us a little bit about them, how you found them, and why you chose to publish with them?
Jo-Anne – I discovered Nancy Williams online. Like my business partner, Brian Knight. Oh, and like my second husband…let’s just say…
“The Internet is where I meet folks…lol…”
Nancy Williams founded and manages The Laurus Company. She is a gem!
I chose Nancy because I knew I could trust her. I also represented a client who had her as an editor and publisher and I chatted with him about her professionalism. After hearing his rave remarks and reading his book (while seeing the awesome quality), I knew I had my editor, cover designer, and publisher. Nancy and I work as a team. Have mutual respect for each other.

Shelley – I noticed on your blog that you paid to have someone else convert your books into eBooks. Can you tell us a little bit about the gentleman that you chose to work with, and why you made that decision?

Jo-Anne – I had Joshua Tallent convert my physical books into eBooks. He’s the best!…a tad expensive, but I figure you usually get what you pay for, and I wanted quality. It was a good thing I had him too…because, there were some formatting snags with Smashwords…and thank goodness, I didn’t have to do a thing. Joshua did it all! I like not having that extra stress….lol…
“He made sure everything was perfect.”
Before choosing Joshua, I did a lot of research on him. I then had him as a guest blogger where I conducted an interview.  After the blog interview, I then had Joshua as a Special Guest on my radio show “Authors Articulating”.After all of this, I knew I had chosen the right man for the job.

Shelley – You are both an author and an internet marketer, what are some of your favorite parts to each job? Do you have a favorite thing that you get to do with one or both of them?

Jo-Anne – Writing gives me a feeling of total escape from reality…lol…okay, now I’m really sounding crazy…lol…well, you know what I mean.
“As an author, I like the freedom of creativity.”
As an Internet Marketer, I take my job seriously. I view the Internet Marketing work as mental exercise…sort of like a physical work-out, except with the brain. I need that. My mental illness (which the Doctors had first diagnosed me with early Alzheimer’s) requires constant exercise. I joke around with others by saying that a holiday turns my brains to mush…well, to be honest, it is not too far from the truth.
“As an Internet Marketer, I enjoy the mental challenge.”
My favourite thing I get to do being both an author and an Internet Marketer is the opportunity to meet other fascinating people. I love learning! And…
“My biggest thrill is helping or supporting other fellow writers and marketers.”
To me, this is how I measure success.

Shelley – You have said on more than one occasion that marketing starts before your book is published and released. At what point would you recommend that authors get themselves out there, and where should they start?

Jo-Anne – I truly believe what John Kremer states:
“Marketing should start when you have the idea of writing a book or selling a product”.

It takes time to build a following. Developing a platform, that stands out from the rest, takes fine-tuning and will happen with the more energy you put forth.
“The first thing you need to do is start a blog.”
There are free user-friendly platforms available. I have my blogs on both wordpress and blogger. Blogger is easier to function if you’re a newbie. When blogging, you need to think of your area of expertise or niche.
“When you write articles about your passion, it is simple.”
If you are only writing for your audience, then you will probably run into writer’s block and it will seem like a chore. Hopefully, you can connect your niche with your book or the product you’re selling. It is important to supply content the viewer can take. This will generate traffic to your site and will entice the reader to come back for more. Oh, and make sure you have your book or product on the sidebar with a clear purchase link. This is where you’ll make your sales.
“You must be proactive.”
Having a blog just sit there isn’t going to cut-it. Now you must head out into the Social Media Networks like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Goodreads. Share your expertise, meet potential buyers, and leave your signature (with the link back to your blog) where ever you go.
Give, give, and give some more.
..don’t worry about the amount of time or energy this involves…trust me, it will open the doors for more opportunities and eventually the success you’re striving for.
“Be patient and persevere.”

Shelley – Jo-Anne, thank you again for taking time out of your busy schedule to interview with us, and for sharing your wealth of knowledge and experience. In closing, can you tell our readers where to find you on the web?

Jo-Anne – Oh, you are more than welcome!  I thank you for giving me the opportunity to share the wealth of knowledge with others.
Lol…to find me?…just Google my name: Jo-Anne Vandermeulen…I’m all over the place…lol…

PPS Book Title Promotion – “No Innocent Affair” By: Edward F. Mrkvicka Jr. With Kelly Helen Mrkvicka

5-Star Religion Reference

Review of a Powerful Book

You want the truth about adultery? Here it is in its purest form.

“She means nothing to me. I love you.” “It was just a one time thing; I broke it off.” “You don’t give me what I need.” Any of these statements sound familiar? Maybe you’ve heard some of them or maybe you’ve even said some of them. There are no good reasons for affairs; only excuses. There is no such thing as an innocent affair. We see first hand in ‘No Innocent Affair’ the destructive force adultery truly is.

What the readers will discover as they delve into the pages of “No Innocent Affair” is the ugly truth about adultery. Its destructive nature is not isolated to the spouse of the cheating individual. The destruction expands to their friends, job, family, children and even the soul that resides inside of them. Yes, the consequences of adultery are dire.

How does adultery destroy the one committing this sin and deny that individual access to heaven? What is the difference between forgiveness and repentance? Why is salvation and repentance such a critical aspect of redeeming the individual and assuring eternal life in heaven?

Edward’s passion for the Lord and Christian love for everyone is on full display. This self proclaimed ‘connect-the-dots’ kind of guy hopes to help people know the Lord’s commands and laws as He describes them in the Bible. He accomplishes this through his experience as a lay minister and avid student of the Bible. With each passing page, it is virtually impossible not to reflect on your relationship with your loved ones and, more importantly, the Lord.

‘No Innocent Affair’ is a resource and guide book that is strongly supported and validated by the Bible. This painful and devastating topic is laid bare before our eyes through the use of examples, personal insight and Scripture. The author makes no apologies for the awesome truth that is exposed within the pages of this book but these are truths that all believers and nonbelievers must hear, know and understand. If you’ve ever considered or have had an affair I strongly recommend ‘No Innocent Affair.’ This book can help you make the needed changes in your life to ensure your eternal home is in Heaven and not the pit of fire.

Edward Mrkvicka is the author of ‘The Prayer Promise of Christ’ and ‘Be Not Deceived.’ His new book ‘No Innocent Affair’ will be released on September 20, 2011.

PPS Book Title Promotion – “Earth Angel” By: Diane Hall

4-Star Spiritual Fiction

Not An Ordinary Book

When is a journal more than a journal?

Angels; we see pictures of them, or have little jewelry and sculptures of them in the house. The fact is we are intrigued by angels. Some want to know if they are real and some what to see one. What if you could read a journal written by an angel? What would we learn from those pages? In Diane Hall’s novel “Earth Angel” we find the answers to those questions and many more. We travel with the angels as they journey through humanity.

Art, music and writing are the expressions of emotions in the truest form. Angels hunger for that avenue of emotion. They identify these gifts in those who don’t and nurture that gift if possible. They assist humans to reach their potential in an effort to progress the greater plan of greater love. The discoveries, trials and sacrifices are discovered as these angels travel through human existence.

What do angels think? How do they express emotion? What do they feel for humanity? What is their purpose?

From the first word, Diane Hall delivers an endearing story of love and sacrifice. With each passing page, it is virtually impossible not to be absorbed into the travels, journeys and multiple reincarnations of life lived on Earth. The more you read the deeper your understanding of the angel’s view, thoughts and actions become.

The strength of “Earth Angel” lies in the characters. Angels capture our senses and captivate our imaginations. This being of pure love delivers hope and joy even in the darkest moments; even when they would rather do something else. The greater good is always their goal and it is this goal that inspires us to be better. This novel is for those who are enthralled with angels and those who seek a story of love, joy and romance.

PPS Book Title Promotion – “Brain Warp” By: Gil Snider

4-Star Medical Thriller

Warp Your Mind

Wrap your brain around this thriller.

Peter Branstead, the intelligent neurology doctor at Saint Mark’s hospital, has stumbled into a medical mystery never before seen in the medical profession. Vagrants from the local area have flooded into the emergency room of Saint Mark’s. All of them with the same symptoms and all of them end with the same result – death. But what is causing these symptoms and why can’t the doctors save these patients?

As Peter investigate this mystery he discovers that everything is not as it seems. In fact it goes well beyond the simple virus or outbreak. Each patient did not simply die, they were murdered. Why? Little does Peter know but the closer he gets to the answer the closer he gets to extreme danger. There are people in the world who would do anything for power and Peter is about to meet them. “Brain Warp” is a medical mystery that travels across the globe and back again.

The deeper Peter digs the higher the stakes get. The individuals behind this horrible plan know of Peter, his fiancé and their investigation. To stop their snooping they have called upon the Scorpion, the most ruthless individual known to the Ukrainian underworld. The mafia themselves fear this individual. What they don’t know is Peter has friends…but is it enough to stop these people and avoid the Scorpion?

From the first word, Gil Snider delivers a fast pace, mystery thriller that will keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat from the first page to the last. With each passing page, it is virtually impossible not to encourage Peter to keep digging but be careful and solve this crime. The more you read the more you feel the tension building as all the characters you care about find themselves in peril.

The strength of “Brain Warp” lies in the story structure, crisp plot and believability. With medical terminology to support the plot it lends to the credibility of the story which adds depth in a real world scenario. The characters capture your attention quickly and never let go until the end. Author Gil Snider’s novel is a true medical mystery and thriller in every sense of the word. Think House but in the form of a book. I highly recommend “Brain Warp” for anyone who enjoys edge of your seat suspense, intrigue, crime and mystery.

PPS Book Title Promotion – “My Bad Tequila” By: Rico Austin

4-Star Non-Fiction

Two Shots….and there you go.

You can run but you can’t hide.

Young, in college, Spring Break, and heading for a Mexican beach by the Sea of Cortez sounds like the perfect get away for anyone. But when you are struggling against the cold of an Idaho winter this sounds like the perfect definition of Heaven. What could be more perfect? What could go wrong in a tranquil destination, like this, where the sun burns bright and the beer flows freely? If only Rhet Austen had thought about that question before stepping on the blue bus for Mexico. He might have missed what he would coin as ‘My Bad Tequila.’ What exactly is ‘My Bad Tequila’? Well, you need to read the book to truly understand but to sum it up I would say this – if it can go wrong, it will. In this case, for Rhet, it has.

Rhet is ready to party, drink copious amounts of alcohol and have fun. Even better, he is surrounded by beautiful women but one captures his attention – Tina. As Rhet and Tina renew a fire they once thought extinguished, things around them begin to crumple and go haywire. A strange accident, lost friends and family members on the way to the hospital and many other events only lend to the downward spiral that is ‘My Bad Tequila.’ On the day of their departure it is only Rhet and a few college friends on the bus. Where is Tina? What has happened? The answers to those questions are like the salt rim around a margarita glass…they add to Rhet’s Bad Tequila.

From the first word, Rico Austin begins to weave a tale that is, for many, truly difficult to believe. He is forthright with the fact that some of this story is fictional; however, much of it is true. What validates and verifies this story are the pictures that illustrate some of the scenes. With each passing page, it is virtually impossible not to think “what else is going to happen to this guy?” The more you read the more you connect with Rhet and his journey.

The strength of “My Bad Tequila” lies in the honesty of it. The events that unfold start out innocent enough but by the end many individuals/characters are changed forever. Author Rico Austin’s story is a true coming of age moment right at the heart of youth gone wild. I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys the unbelievable ups and downs that life has to offer.
