Jo-Anne Vandermeulen Interviews Author Deborah McCarragher

Posted by Jo-Anne Vandermeulen on March 10, 2010

Author Deborah McCarragher has proven to *Conquer All Obstacles*. Welcome my special guest for this insightful interview.

Author Deborah McCarragher

About Deborah McCarragher

Deborah began her journey of creative writing soon after coming to know Jesus Christ as her personal Savoir in 1989. She uses her spiritual gifts of encouragement and teaching in her home church. She also enjoys in-depth bible study in her personal time and is a small business owner of over twenty years. Her primary goal is to share her personal testimony with others while bringing hope and practical help through her books. She and her husband reside in north Florida.

About “Mission Possible: Spiritual Covering”

Mission Possible is a unique book in the Christian marketplace.  It addresses a subject that is often overlooked and misunderstood.  It is a candid look at my struggles and quest to reach my husband for Christ.  I became a believer seven years into our marriage.  It is written as I have lived it, and applies scripture and biblical context to each chapter.   Mission Possible was nominated for Christian Small Publisher’s Assoc. Book of the Year Award for 2009.

What inspired you to craft this quite insightful volume?

I was involved with a local intercessory prayer group at the time, and was prompted by God during prayer to write down what He was conveying to me about my husband and his salvation.  It was quite literally written while inspired, and without much effort on my part.  I typed on the computer as He led me to bible verses and topics to talk about.

I remember writing down the names of the (7) chapters during prayer time on a tablet, just looking at them afterwards in awe.  It was quite a moving experience.

The book is anchored strongly in sound scriptural support. Did you perform much research prior to putting it together?

Yes I did, however, I was also fortunate to be part of an inter-denominational comprehensive bible study (BSF – Bible Study Fellowship) for seven years which gave me much of my bible study background as a new believer.  As I wrote the book, God would lead me to a verse I was familiar with, or I would read something that day that would remind me of something I had studied earlier.  Practical application was always prompted by the Lord in my prayer and devotional time.

What primary advice do you have for women who are married to “non-believing” husbands?

I think the most important advice is to have faith in Who God Is and His sovereignty.  We can’t “pre-package” our spouse’s conversion experience, and God will always do what will bring Him the “most glory”.  We also have to remember that we don’t wrestle against flesh and blood.  Our spouse (if unsaved) isn’t governed by God’s Spirit – so we have to release them from that accountability.  We must have faith that rests in God and not in our own understanding. We must not rely on what we see, but what is unseen.

Have you had the opportunity to share the book with church groups or congregations?

I have shared at my home church in ladies bible study groups and Sunday school classes briefly, but not in a large forum yet.  I plan on contacting local churches and introducing myself and my book to women’s ministry leaders this year. I want to share my personal testimony with others and bring hope and encouragement to women who are hurting and frustrated.

What kinds of reactions has the book generated thus far?

I have had great reaction to my little book.  Some women love it because it is not lengthy, and they can read it quickly - yet refer back to it over & over again.  One woman emailed me a testimony that she was nearly ready to leave her husband, but after reading the book, felt that God was leading her to give her marriage another try.  That was very humbling and gratifying for me.  I just want to help women see that there is an alternative to being miserable in an unequally yoked marriage.

What’s the main message that you’d like readers to take away from it?

I would love readers to discover that God has a plan for each marriage that is in spiritual disunity.  It involves us, but it is always done HIS WAY!  I want readers to know that it is a process that evolves over time, that we must not put God in a “box”, but give Him room to move in our spouse’s life.  They need to know that because we are not perfect and continue to sin, that Satan will try to discourage and influence us to believe that our “mission” is not possible – but with God, all things are possible!

Please share more with us about your publishing company, Alabaster Box Publishing.

I formed my company, Alabaster Box Publishing Inc. so I could self-publish my book Mission Possible.  My company’s mission is to minister to women who are married to men that don’t share their passion for Jesus.  My Mission Statement on my website says my goal is to:  ENCOURAGE women through scripture to believe in God’s Word to transform their husbands;  TEACH women, by using the principles in this book,
through mentoring and discipling, in the Lord; CHALLENGE women to “get out of their comfort zones” as they minister to their spouses as unto the Lord; and REACH women for Jesus who are searching for answers when their marriages just don’t add up . My company’s motto is “Books to stir your mind, and stretch your soul!”

What’s next for you?

I am working on another book that is completely different from my first book.  It is titled Trees of the Bible – A Spiritual Journey.  It will feature various trees in scripture and talk about their significance in the Bible.  It features their Hebrew name and their scientific designation. There is an excerpt on my website.

How can our readers learn more about you and purchase your book?

My book is available through my website at http://www.godmissionpossible.com & from several other online retailers such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble.  It can also be ordered at any Christian bookstore through Ingram.  I have my book available in (4) forms: as a trade paperback, audio book on CD, as an EBook, and as a downloadable MP-3 version.

They can visit my Blog page at http://www.godmissionpossible.blogspot.com .

Email at deb@alabasterboxpublishing.com .

Any final thoughts you’d like to share?

I’d like them to know that I understand how difficult it is to be married to a spouse who doesn’t share your love and devotion to the Lord Jesus.  I, like many of my readers, get frustrated and disillusioned, but I know God has perfect timing and our best interest at heart.  He wants our spouses to come to a saving knowledge of Him and embrace a future together that brings glory to Him.

Conquer All Obstacles: The “Just for Today” Philosophy

Posted by Jo-Anne Vandermeulen on February 11, 2010

Wayne Bisset

To *Conquer All Obstacles*, one may need to include reminders or stickies around the house.

Wayne Bisset joins me today. His guest post helps remind us that really…all we have is TODAY—a  “Just for Today” philosophy.

I have favourite slogans borrowed from a 12-step program…not a sign of weakness; merely just plain SMART. I often repeat phrases  such as “Take One Day At A Time” or “Easy Does It” or “This Too Shall Pass”.

A living program that can be implemented whether we’re involved in relationships or attempting something new. A foreign world such as cyberspace can be scary…but it doesn’t have to be.

Use the resources around to help YOU *Conquer All Obstacles*. Wayne did, and now look what he’s doing…enjoy his post (I sure did):

Conquer All Obstacles: The “Just for Today” Philosophy

By: Wayne Bisset

Just for today I will try to live through this day only, and not tackle all my problems at once. I can do something for twelve hours that would appall me if I felt that I had to keep it up for a lifetime.

Just for today I will be happy. This assumes to be true what Abraham Lincoln said, that most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be.

Just for today I will adjust myself to what is, and not try to adjust everything to my own desires. I will take my luck as it comes, and fit myself to it.

Just for today I will try to strengthen my mind. I will study. I will learn something useful. I will not be a mental loafer. I will read something that requires effort, thought and concentration.

Just for today I will exercise my soul in three ways: I will do somebody a good turn, and not get found out; if anybody knows of it, it will not count. I will do at least two things I don’t want to do just for exercise. I will not show anyone that my feelings are hurt; they may be hurt, but today I will not show it.

Just for today I will be agreeable. I will look as well as I can, dress becomingly, keep my voice low, be courteous, criticize not one bit. I won’t find fault with anything, nor try to improve or regulate anybody but myself.

Just for today I will have a program. I may not follow it exactly, but I will have it. I will save myself from two pests: hurry and indecision.

Just for today I will have a quiet half hour all by myself and relax. During this half hour, sometime, I will try to get a better perspective of my life.

Just for today I will be unafraid. Especially I will not be afraid to enjoy what is beautiful and to believe that as I give to the world, so the world will give to me.

Please follow Wayne at: http://www.twitter.com/WayneBisset or request friendship on FB at: http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/profile.php?ref=profile&id=566712239

This section that Wayne wrote really caught my eye. Love his voice (smooth and free).

Guest Blogger: Author – LORI NEWMAN

Posted by Jo-Anne Vandermeulen on December 13, 2009

Author Lori Newman

Lori Newman is a twice divorced mother of two who has been through the court system for the last ten years. She’s fought for freedom from her ex-husbands and constant attacks on her for ~ Control.

She’s fought for her daughters right to be able to grow up without the constant fear of what their father will do to their mother now.

Lori’s been asked by so many how she was able to get through all of this and still keep her sanity, dignity and sense of humor in tact.

This book, “Here All Along”, is to help others going through a similar situation. Who feel they have lost their power. Who even after divorce are still being bullied or controlled by someone who once said “I love you.”

“Here All Along” is Now released! Click HERE to learn more and purchase.

1.) How long have you been writing? (Please include how and when you published your first book.

I have been journal writing since I was eight years old. I have drawers and shelves filled with journals just waiting to be pulled out and organized into a book of their own to be shared.  It took me seven months to write Here All Along, finding my own inner strength.  When I began sending it out to publishers back in October of 2009 they were asking me how I would market my book and if I had established a platform for it yet. So, I decided to publish my book on my own, giving me full control of the process, the marketing, and the logistics of my book. I published Here All Along on November 17, 2009 and it was a great learning experience for me.

2.) In your opinion, how has the publishing industry changed and how has this affected authors?

The industry has gone through a few changes. With the ease of being able to publish your own book more Authors are choosing to go that direction. However, Authors are taking on the challenges of establishing a following, learning the best way to market their writings and being able to balance writing while maintaining a presence in the world for their book.

3.) How important is marketing one’s book today?

Marketing is very important today and is an everyday adventure. Trying to find balance is the key. There are so many social mediums on the internet now that you really need to balance between where your interests are and where your niche with your book is.  Research the best places to market your book and then find a way to get involved. Keep up a presence, make connections and support your fellow writers. Those are a few of the best ways I have found to market my book and make some great friends.

4.) Tell us about your blogs and why you chose the title.

I have two blogs. I started with When We Listen back in May of 2009 and Here All Along came around in August of 2009. I came up with When We Listen for a place to share my poetry, writings and get involved with the blogging community. I felt When We Listen was appropriate because I believe anything is possible when we listen to our hearts.  Here All Along was started as an introduction to my book and gave it a pretty good following before the actual release date.

5.)   What’s next for Author Lori Newman?

I am currently working on my next writing adventure~Fiction.  It is a romantic western. I am used to writing in first person so this has been quite the adventure and even a little challenging as well, but I am having a blast with the characters some even resemble people within my own life.

6.) Would you like to add any closing thoughts today?

In closing I just want to say, dream big & always believe in yourself, anything is possible if you listen to your own inner strength.  Thank you Jo-Anne for this opportunity to interview with you.

Special Guest, Expert Ghost Writer CLAUDIA SUZANNE, on Authors Articulating with JO-ANNE VANDERMEULEN

Posted by Jo-Anne Vandermeulen on November 26, 2009

No, this is not Hallowe’en.  Ghostwriters aren’t that kind of ghosts; but in a way, they are. A ghostwriter is someone who takes on the voice and writes the book of someone else’s story. He/she often does not take any recognition in the publication of the finished book; but often, comes away with an income of around $100,000 a year. A chameleon with the ability to not only camouflage with its surroundings; but also, can expertly statisticize the story heard into a fabulous production.

You didn’t think an author could produce all those books in one year. Tell me, you didn’t realize that a famous singer or actor could write like a professional. There’s no way we can be fooled this easily. Yep, it wasn’t the actual author’s name that’s on the book who actually created such a publication…instead, the book or novel was created by a ghostwriter.   And if this book was done extremely well, chances are, it was written by the expert ghostwriter Claudia Suzanne.

Claudia Suzanne

You want to become a Ghostwriter? Well, Claudia is the only one in the world who teaches this remarkable ability.

CLAUDIA  is an expert Ghostwriter. She has written or ghosted  100 titles, including four editions of her own critically acclaimed title, THIS BUSINESS OF BOOKS: A Complete Overview of the Industry from Concept Through Sales, which is required or recommended by college and university instructors across the country and around the world.

She is also the author of SECRETS OF A GHOSTWRITER: Your New Career on a Silver Platter, the first textbook the provides step-by-step skill training and practical theory for launching a new and lucrative writing career.

Through her books, teaching, and mentoring, Claudia has launched or expanded numerous ghostwriting and other editorial-service careers.

Must be a Trick ’cause it’s NOT a Treat

Posted by Jo-Anne Vandermeulen on October 29, 2009

YIKES! Too Many Directions...

YIKES...Way Too Many Directions!

Jo-Anne as the Author

I can officially call myself an author. I was a writer; but now, I’m an author. An elated feeling that soon came crashing down…

Jo-Anne as a Four-Armed Octopus

I feel like an octopus…Okay, I’m missing half my arms; but still, I’m veering off in multiple directions—way too many for my comfort  zone. Functioning in 4 different roles (publicist , distributer, marketer, and an author) is stressful.

Jo-Anne now acts as a:

1.) Publicist – Organizes media visits

2.) Distributor – Displays the book

3.) Marketeer  – Promotes the author and book

4.) Author – Presents self during media visits

I was so clueless a year ago. Actually, even a month ago, I didn’t know what a publicist, distributor or author did. Believe me, I didn’t feel I was prepared or up for this challenge; but, I basically had little choice.

Jo-Anne as a Publicist

When I spoke with the publicists from Regina and Saskatoon, both told me to save my money and do it myself. The publicists figured I knew enough about who to contact. They figured that I had the ability to search and discover  the locations of each media sources myself—Oh yes, Google is an amazing search engine. So, I took their recommendations. As soon as my books arrived at my home, I became my own publicist.

A Calendar Became My Best Friend

As a publicist, I contacted (by phone and Internet—email) the TV stations, radio stations, papers, libraries, author clubs, friends/family, and book stores. I sent media releases  announcing this NEW Local Author (that’s me) and my book. And I had to plan dates for physical appearances (book signing/book talks). I had to be open for interviews, and  had to schedule the interviews to weave around the public appearances.

I soon found out that if I wanted to present book launches, it only made sense to have books on display prior and post the dates of these signings, so… I had my daughters usher ‘Conquer All Obstacles” to the book launch destinations. My oldest daughter, Tanille, hauled books East. My youngest daughter, Brenda, carted the books West…each distributing the books in locations of my upcoming book launches.

Jo-Anne as a Distributor

So far, being a distributor is the worst job. Driving from one book store to another—thank goodness my daughters are helping me…otherwise, it just wouldn’t pay for the price of the gas.

Each place has different standards, but all want to make the most money they can from the selling of the author’s book. The going rate is 40% off the top price. The author may make between 5-10% which just doesn’t jive. If I’m paying for the books to be shipped to my home, the printing of the book, the marketing, and I’m the one who puts all the work into the book, then why should the store receive 40% and the author make 5-10%????

Today, this distributor I spoke to tried to tell me that it was the publisher that was hauling in the revenue and that they should be ashamed of themselves. I, immediately spoke up (even shook my finger at the man…almost jabbed him in the chest with it), told him that his words were not fooling me…it was him and the distributors that were robbing the authors. GRRrrrr … Well, it’s a toss-up between Saskatchewan Postal Services and the Distributors. Both are making it impossible for authors to make any money from their long hard work.

Jo-Anne as a Marketeer

Promotion comes naturally for me. I have the ability…but unfortunately, do not have the time these days. To be honest, I have done little online marketing. The roles of publicist, distributor, and author must happen now. Even though, without the exposure, I’m hurting myself, I can only do so much with the time I have.

I will be my own marketer. As soon as my book tour is finished, I’m going to hit the Internet with robust. Through the past 8 months, I’ve built an author platform which has brought me a huge number of followers.  So my marketing has already started, but is just on a delay-mode until…

December. I’m going to target my reading audience, create massive exposure, and will drive this traffic back to my site where my book is sold. I will be ready to *Conquer All Obstacles.*

PPS Book Title Promotion: “From My Mama’s Kitchen” Author: Johnny Tan

Posted by Jo-Anne Vandermeulen on October 3, 2009

*Food for the soul, recipes for living*

*****Food For The Soul... Recipes For The Living

Title: From My Mama’s Kitchen
Author: Johnny Tan
ISBN: 978-0-9820235-1-8
Genre: Memoir
Pages: 137
Reviewed By: Brian Knight
Official Premium Promotional Services Rating: 5 Star

“Respect the past, because it is a classroom for lessons learned. Be prepared for the future, because it is my destiny. Always live in the now, because every moment is a memorable experience.” This is an example of the wisdom and advice author Johnny Tan received from the influential women in his life. Those he affectionately called ‘moms.’

“From My Mama’s Kitchen” began as a keepsake collection of recipes but soon morphed into a memoir of lessons learned and advice shared in the kitchen. The eternal love a mother has for her children is highlighted in this endearing novel as Tan shares with us the influence those lessons and advice had.

The kitchen is the hub of every house and like that hub; moms are the hub of the family. They are the teacher, doctor, security blanket, and banker in the eyes of their children. By preparing their children for adulthood all moms pass down advice and life lessons learned from their mothers. Author Johnny Tan had the unique opportunity to learn from his mother plus eight more women he referred to as mom.

In “From My Mama’s Kitchen,” Tan combines the collective learning from his nine moms. He affectionately gives credit where credit is due for the life his had led and the life he is living.

Right from the first paragraph, Tan’s love and respect for the moms in his life will capture your undivided attention. Again and again, he presents their advice and guidance with a smooth pace that’s both refreshing and comforting. The impact these women had on Tan’s life is unmistakable as it is virtually on every page.

I recommend “From My Mama’s Kitchen” to anyone whose life has been impacted by the lessons learned and advice gained from their mamas. The motherly love exemplified in this book will warm the hearts of both young and old.

“From My Mama’s Kitchen – food for the Soul, recipes for living,” is a testament to mothers’ world wide.

“Great buyer!! So nice to work with! Look forward to future business. Thanks so much!” >Another Satisfied Customer<

“Amazing, Wonderful, great seller, amazing condition, I have told all of my friends about this and you.” >Another Satisfied Customer<

2.) Why should Authors purchase the Book Bag?

Any sort of marketing tool like bookmarks, cards, book videos—all have multi-functional purposes. A win-win result:

WIN – The author buys the bag (for advertisement) and can write-off the expenses as an income tax deduction.

WIN – The author sells the bag (or presents it as a gift) and their book is attractively displayed everywhere this person goes. The more bags sold, the more locations the book will be advertised.

And unlike a bookmark, card, or book video that have to be brought out into the open, this bag would be ALWAYS VISIBLE.

WIN + WIN = DOUBLE WIN

*The author has NOTHING to lose*

3.) How do you make the Book Bags?

No pages are harmed during the bag making process. I take the books and only use the covers. I then take the sleeve and wrap it back on to the fully in-tact book and donate it to a Refugee Center here in Arizona called the IRC.

“The bag is AMAZING!!!!!!!!! It is made with excellent materials! Very fast shipping!!!” >Another Satisfied Customer<

5.) Why the sudden interest in making a designer craft into merchandise as a second income?

My father will soon lose his house unless he can come up with the mortgage payments. I just couldn’t watch him lose his most precious possession. I decided to help him save his house he built with his own two hands. The income I generate will go to help my father save his home.

It’s a long story, so I’ll try to make it as short as possible:

My father is a simple man who emigrated from Czechoslovakia in 1969 searching for a better life. Growing up, I watched him build our house with his own two hands, constantly adding things that reminded him of Czechoslovakia. A couple of years ago my mother’s brother (Frank) asked for my father to co-sign a loan for a business he was starting. My father wanted nothing to do with it, he had worked hard to get out of debt and didn’t want anything in his name. My mother and uncle constantly asked about the loan, until my father finally gave in.

Uncle Frank is now basically homeless, his business has gone into bankruptcy and is now unable to pay off the loan. My parents are now forced to pay $3,000 a month with a combined income of $27,000 a year. I want to help my father financially. My goal is to turn the profits I make from my custom designed products and hand it over to my father so he can have back some of the life he worked so hard on achieving.

6.) Who would benefit purchasing your custom designed products?

AUTHORSBook Bags are a win-win situation. Distribute their own case-wrap hardcover bags as a promotional tool (tax deduction and advertisement), collector items, prize give-aways, gifts, celebrity auction for charities, etc.

“I just got my handbag and definitely love it! It’s adorable, I guess I have to go out tonight just to use it. Thank you!”>Satisfied Customer<

Recommendations For Jo-Anne Vandermeulen

Posted by Jo-Anne Vandermeulen on August 28, 2009

“Seven weeks ago, I spoke with the Lord. “Lord,” I said. “I have done what you have asked me to do in writing and publishing these three children’s books for you. They have turned out beautifully. Yet, I have spent so much time trying to promote them, and it seems that I’m getting nowhere. I have basically beaten my head against the wall trying, but nothing is working. At this point, I am asking for your guidance in the direction I need to go, and I need your help. Basically, His answer was, “Step aside son, let me show you how it’s done.” His first move was to drop me an Angel from heaven by the name of Jo-Anne Vandermeulen. She directed me to their company called “Premium Promotional Services.” There I met up with her partner named Brian Knight. From then on, it has been pure heaven. I don’t know that I can put into words the outstanding job that they have performed for me. I am simply Awestruck, and amazed at the professionalism at which they’ve performed. I have received professional weekly updates showing every detail of their work, and the accomplishments of such. “Awesome!” I am so very happy I called on the Lord and followed his directions. I highly recommend this company to any author that is having difficulty as I was. They can deliver for you, I promise. The best part was, I never had to lift a finger. They did it all. Thank you both so much for what you’ve done for me. God is good! He delivers, and you are his messengers. Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!”

“I first met Jo-Anne on ShoutLife.com (a Christian social networking site). She was very friendly and helpful right from the start. Her expertise and professionalism shine forth in her “chat” dialog and her enthusiasm is contagious. Jo-Anne was a God send. I am a newcomer to books and promotion, and Jo-Anne gave me invaluable advice and direction. She is an expert in her trade and knows the importance of quality and timing with regards to promotion. She personally takes the time to critique your work and “makes you think” about your approach to marketing. Any promotional dollars I spend will be with you and your firm, Premium Promotions. God bless you, Jo-Anne.”

“Jo-Anne Vandermeulen of Premium Promotional Services taught me something. I thought I was Internet savvy enough since I created a Twitter and Facebook page. And yes those two and other social network sites are not rocket science to set up. What Jo-Anne taught me is how much I didn’t know. I didn’t know really how to create a blog and I really didn’t know how to bring it all together with the smoke and the mirrors known as SEO, search engine optimization. Her creativity and diligence is well worth the price of admission. If you have a book you want to market, do not miss this opportunity to work with Jo. She will get you to where you need to be. Plus she is a total delight, a huge supporter of your efforts and now a friend. Mark Stephen Levy” September 22, 2009 >Mark Stephen Levy<
